In the early 1970’s Silvio Jermann started making a wine that would eventually become the iconic Vintage Tunina, a field blend of native and international varietals that exhibited both Friuli’s iconic Ponca soils. Considered one of Italy’s first cult white wines, Vintage Tunina’s international acclaim propelled the Jermann family from simple farmers to a world-class winemaking family and helped put Friuli on the winemaking world’s map. Since then, they released a monovarietal Pinot Grigio that’s considered one of the greatest expressions of the grape in the world, and another cult white wine, first released in the 1980’s, "Dreams" a barrel-fermented Chardonnay on par with the great Chardonnays of Burgundy. Silvio’s wines are distinctly precise offerings, showing a linear acidity that lends freshness and makes nearly all of their wines ageworthy. This is assisted by their use of screwcap, which allows them to use 30% less sulfur in the bottling of the wine, while better controlling the exchange of oxygen through microscopic holes in the wine caps. Jermann also exports a distinct Pinot Nero, a unique Sauvignon Blanc, and a beautiful wine made from the native varietal of Ribolla Gialla, called "Vinnae.
