Masparillo here refers to a member of theA. maximilianafamily which grows throughout parts of Durango, Nayarit, Zacatecas, Jalisco, and Sinaloa. It is a medium-sized plant that takes around 9 years to mature with wide, fat leaves (pencas) that taper into a narrow spade shape.
