Looking up "Jersey Lightning," in history books will lead you to the first commercial producer of cider in America – a Scotsman named William Laird. Beginning in 1698 he produced what was called "cyder" at the time (also referred to as Jersey Lighting since it was produced in New Jersey). What’s unbelievable about this is that Laird’s still exists today, and is bottling a perfectly clear apple brandy again, so we can taste and see why Laird's Jersey Lightning Apple Brandy was so beloved by our founding fathers.
