After 16 years in ex-bourbon barrels, the whisky is finished in a combination of Matusalem Sherry casks, French oak Marsala casks, French oak Cabernet Franc barriques, and French oak Cabernet Sauvignon barriques. The bourbon barrels lay down sweetness, the Matusalem Sherry contributes dried fruit and nuttiness as the whisky's base character, the Marsala casks bring warm ginger and spice, and the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon barriques add tannin and dark fruit structure.
